Two climbers, 82 summits, 100 days.

To raise awareness about the devastating effects of climate change and to initiate a movement that enables positive actions.

Protect Our Winters (POW) is a global non-profit environmental organisation and the leading climate non-profit in the outdoor industry. Through educational initiatives, political advocacy and community-based activism, POW engages and mobilises the outdoor sports community to lead the charge towards positive climate action.

Founded in the US in 2007, POW has been active in Europe since 2014 and currently operates national chapters in 14 countries worldwide.

POW works with businesses and athletes to mobilise and harness the collective power of the outdoor sports community to take meaningful action against climate change. This is important as the outdoor community has a disproportionate influence because of its profile, newsworthiness, economic influence and the passion of the participants, athletes and businesses involved. Outdoor sports are a way for the public to understand the consequences of climate change, and what we stand to gain by stopping it, or lose by failing to.

POW works creatively and opportunistically and focuses on three main areas: education, advocacy and community-based activism. Since the start in 2007, POW has grown from a kernel of an idea into a worldwide network: a movement on climate, designed to activate a passionate community and create the political will for meaningful action by policymakers.

“We are delighted and excited to have POW with us on this journey. The Climb for Climate project aims to raise awareness about climate change in our alpine regions and POW’s broad network and expertise will greatly help us achieve that.”

Peter Sandahl and Danny Uhlmann
Founders of Climb for Climate – 82 summits for change.

To reach its goals, POW works together with professional athletes, world-class scientists, the outdoor industry and businesses that have set their entrepreneurial path towards a low-carbon society. POW engages in campaigns worldwide that aim to affect systemic solutions to climate change and addresses the issue of climate change from different angles such as food, mobility or democratic participation. With members and supporters from all over the world, POW now has a support base of more than 160’000 people and is the leading voice in the outdoor industry against climate change.

POW supports and engages with the Climb for Climate project to help raise awareness and educational efforts on the impact of climate change in our alpine regions.

As POW’s work is mainly dependent on voluntary efforts by the community, the project has created a fundraiser to enable POW to further accelerate and continue their work. Read more about the grassroots movement and make your donation here.
